Mayor’s award for Desmond Jonas

Every year, Mayor’s Awards are given to recognise people who have gone over and above to serve the community and who have made a significant difference to the lives of our borough’s residents. One of those is Desmond Jonas, who has worked as a Refuse Loader for the borough’s waste collection team for more than 25 years, and was nominated for a Mayor’s Award by residents living in Norland ward.

Desmond, who came to London from Jamaica when he was in his mid-20s, is leader of a hard working and efficient team. He has a really warm, friendly and charming personality and is well liked by Norland residents. Desmond starts his morning at 4am, catching the night bus from Wembley where he lives, to start the morning shift in Norland on Tuesdays and Fridays.
