Hyde Park bandstand back in action for August
For the first three Sunday afternoons in August, the Hyde Park Bandstand will be alive with the sound of music. On Sunday August 5th, it’ll be “Here to Havana", for authentic Afro-Cuban sounds at 12.30. Followed at 15.00 by the South London Jazz Orchestra for big band swing - complete with the amazing 'South London Lindy Hop Dancers'.
On Sunday August 12th, the "Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band" will be honouring the tradition that goes back to the days of the Kentish miners - as well as throwing in a good few unexpected modern musical treats. (15.00 to 17.00)
Finally, on Sunday August 19th, "South London Symphonic Winds” will be on the Bandstand with a wide range of music - marches, classical, popular, modern and more! (15.00 to 17.00.)
Come to just one concert, two concerts or, ideally, all three! For first rate music, a deckchair and an ice-cream in the sun, get out your diary today.
Volunteers wanted! If you can come along a bit early to help welcome the musicians, chat to members of the public, distribute our leaflets or generally be on hand as needed, please email me on julianpeach@tiscali.co.uk or ring 020 7381 9158. Or, just meet at the Friends banner by The Bandstand to see what there is to be done.
