Local Food Bank needs volunteers and supplies

Local Food Bank needs volunteers and supplies

Following a visit last week to the Kensington & Chelsea Food Bank, I just wanted to highlight the ways in which we can help support this vital resource to so many people in our wider community at the moment.

Set up in 2018 as part of the national network of foodbanks, supported by the Trussell Trust, it provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people referred to it. It’s currently serving around 70-90 households of 1- 6 people a week.

As demand is likely to remain high for a while, there are three main ways that we can help:

 Donate items:

* Healthy non-perishable food in tins or packets but most particularly needed regularly, is long life milk and fruit juice which is in constant demand and runs out regularly

 * Toiletries including soap, shower gel, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving razors, sanitary towels, toilet paper and nappies.

You can take all donations directly to the foodbank at 240 Lancaster Road W11 4AH between 10.00 - 14.00 on Mondays and Thursdays.

Or drop them off at the special points near the checkouts at Tesco Superstore West  Cromwell Road Kensington W14 8PB

Donate your time:

The foodbank relies on volunteers to keep it operating and is currently looking for people to take in donations, sort them and distribute into packs for the various household sizes and sometimes assist with distribution at the centre etc. Typically they are looking for a minimum 4 hour commitment and it can involve carrying things up and down stairs.

 Volunteers are needed:

Mondays 12.00 - 15.00

Tuesday 10.00 - 13.00

Thursday 10.00 – 13.00

Friday 12.00 – 15.00

Attached is the application form for volunteers to complete and return for those interested.

Donate funds:

You can donate money to be spend on stock by sending a cheque payable to Notting Hill Methodist Church (write ‘foodbank’ on the back) to:
