New show at Playground Theatre

New show at Playground Theatre

The Playground Theatre's new show is the world premiere of a new adaptation of Jane’s Austen’s "Persuasion" will run at The Playground Theatre from April 17th to 28th.

Adapted for the stage by Stephanie Dale, this touching, comedic drama is directed by the award-winning Kate McGregor, features original music by Maria Haïk Escudero to be played live by a company of actor-musicians and is produced by Theatre6, co-producers of the award-winning, West End smash hit The Scottsboro Boys and critically acclaimed tour of Gabriel.

“Persuasion” - Jane Austen’s final novel - is the story of Anne Elliott; a shy woman from the south coast of England who was young and in love. Engaged to the dashing but poor naval officer, Commander Wentworth, her ambitious family tore them apart. Years later, the tables have turned and a chance encounter could lead Anne towards the true love she has yearned for or a life forever alone.

Filled with live music, drama, laughter and romance, Theatre6’s Persuasion is not to be missed. To buy a ticket click HERE

An old bus depot has been transformed into the Latimer Road theatre which also houses a community cafe and a theatre space for artists to practice, share and learn.

For a number of years artists have used this space to develop their talents away from public gaze – but the next stop for this former depot is to become a fully fledged, public theatre.

The Playground Theatre are looking to raise around £47,000 to create this unique space for North Kensington and Notting Hill. The funds will be used to purchase everything that’s needed to open a public theatre, including staging, seating, sound and lights.

As well as bringing some of the best in international theatre, classical music and film to the area, the Playground are looking to embed themselves in the community and help tell the fascinating stories of local people.

Already the cafe/bar is becoming a hub for the local community, and you can help them take the next step by pledging a few pounds today at www.spacehive.com/playgroundtheatre.

As with all Spacehive projects, donations will only be taken should the Playground reach their target, so please share far and wide to help bring about a new community space in Kensington!
